Core Lineup (Classic) This lineup recorded the band's most famous albums, such as Clear Air Turbulence and Scarabus: Ian Gillan - Vocals Ray Fenwick - Guitar John Gustafson - Bass Colin Townes - Keyboards (joined in 1976) Mark Nausif - Drums Lineup Changes During the band's existence, the keyboardist position changed three times: Mike Moran (1975-1976): Participated in the recording of the band's debut album, Child in Time. Mickey Lee Soule (1976): Had a short tenure with the band after leaving Rainbow. Colin Townes (1976–1978): He became a permanent member and the only one to transfer to Gillan's next band (simply Gillan) after that group's dissolution. Transition to Gillan (1978) In 1978, Gillan disbanded the Ian Gillan Band, wanting to return to a heavier hard rock sound. Only keyboardist Colin Townes joined the new project, simply called Gillan. The other members of the new lineup (Steve Bird, John McCoy, Liam Genockey) were not officially part of the Ian Gillan Band
