The group was formed in 1968 by Mick Abrahams, one of the founders of Jethro Tull. Having released the debut album “This Was” with Jethro Tull, Abrahams discovered serious ideological contradictions with the other star of the group, Ian Anderson. It is difficult for two strong personalities to stay in one team. Abrahams decided to leave. When he created Jethro Tull, he aimed to play an interesting mixture of blues, jazz and rock, which resulted in the excellent album “This Was” (1968). But Anderson was not satisfied with too obvious blues and overt jazz-rock. He wanted to experiment in new areas of music. Abrahams, as they say, gave him the flag - he left him a ready-made group, and he himself formed a new team called “Blodwyn Pig”. The album “Ahead Rings Out” was a strong competitor to Jethro Tull’s second album, “Stand Up,” released at the same time (August 1969), although it topped the British charts, while “Ahead Rings Out” only reached number 9. The album was well received in America and also appeared in the charts there, which gave the group a reason to make a couple of overseas tours. Unlike Jethro Tull, the group did not become widely popular among the masses, which, in general, corresponded to the interests of Mick Abrahams. His pronounced anti-commercial sentiment was one of the reasons for his “divorce” from Jethro Tull. Abrahams was opposed to the hard work seven days a week that Anderson cultivated, and preferred free playing music for his own pleasure to fame and money. “Blodwyn Pig” gained cult status in the narrow underground circles of London and New York, where their concerts were always welcome
