Furthermore, researchers need to focus on designing competitive magnetocaloric devices that are cost-effective and lightweight. The present book addresses both fundamental and practical aspects of magnetocaloric/multicaloric materials, exploring their potential implementation in functional devices. Despite more than a century since the discovery of the MCE, the topic still captivates researchers from various disciplines. The growing interest in MCE arises not only from its potential applications in solid-state refrigeration but also from its significance in academic and theoretical investigations of magnetic materials’ basic physical properties. One of the main driving forces behind the pursuit of MCE research is its potential to enable solidstate refrigeration, providing an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional gas compression refrigeration. By harnessing the MCE, researchers aim to create cooling systems that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the detrimental impact of refrigerants on the environment. However, MCE research is not confined to its technological applications; it also serves as a fertile ground for exploring the fundamental properties of magnetic materials. By investigating the MCE, researchers gain insights into various phenomena, including magnetoelastic coupling, first and second-order phase transitions, and crystalline electrical field anisotropy. These studies contribute to a deeper understanding of the underlying principles governing magnetic behavior, paving the way for advancements in material science and condensed matter physics.
