With Nintendo Power, Electronic Games, and GamePro, games journalism was born, which, in that era, meant a two-page Zelda walkthrough, some low-res screenshots of Mortal Kombat, and everything else was an ad that assumed you were a horny teenage boy... and they were probably right. Looks like not much has changed, except for the resolution; ain't that right, boys? Journey to the 2000s, an era that normalized the worst mistake in gaming history: PUTTING US... ON... CAMERA, proving to the world we weren't quite ready for prime time... Candace Bailey (Attack of the Show!): Who knows anything about Japanese history? There was some samurai, they periodically killed themselves, a rat learned judo... ...but just because we got laughed off of television, didn't mean we couldn't do worse in our own homes. Enter the best case against freedom of speech: YooouuTuuuuube, where everyone's stupid opinion got a globe-spanning megaphone, emphasis on "opinion", because YouTube journalism has no place for original reporting, facts, or in-depth analysis. It's just a game to trick people into clicking on your thumbnails, either by baiting them, pissing them off... Anita Sarkeesian: --why I f*cking hate video games. Because this is what it does: it appeals to, like, the male fantasy. (plays a clip from Muscle March) ...or just outright confusing them, and the actual video is a guy with a hairline on retreat like the French in World War II; anything to get a click, right? After that, no refunds. Get kicked in the head until you check in on how the legacy games media side is doing -- Spoiler alert: Bad.
