The Binding of Isaac: Rebrith is an extended and modified version of a popular independent game, whose gameplay model is based on the first part of The Legend of Zelda series and its derivatives. The original version of The Binding of Isaac was built in Flash and released on PC in September 2011. It was the work of only two people - Edmund McMillen and Florian Himsl. McMillen is known for his work on the platformer Super Meat Boy, which took the genre's fans by storm in 2010. The creators entrusted the responsibility for creating Rebrith to Nicalis studio, which specializes in similar projects. Developers created a new engine, abandoning the limitations of Flash, and introduced a number of new features and fixes. The game's plot is based on the biblical story about Abraham and the test of faith that God subjected him to when he ordered him to sacrifice his son Isaac. In The Binding of Isaac: Rebrith, players take on the role of a little boy and hide from danger in the basement of a house, which turns out to be a nightmarish maze inhabited by demons and creatures from the worst nightmares. The basic gameplay model has not changed compared to the original version of The Binding of Isaac. Players move through a randomly generated maze of rooms, which together create a level ending with a boss fight. While exploring, we will come across various types of items that affect the hero's statistics. Individual levels may also contain shops, rooms with hidden treasures and other secret locations that require replaying the game multiple times to discover them. Objects used to interact with the environment also play an important role in The Binding of Isaac.
